Mindful, Conscious, & Ecological Education
The Mindful Ways Village School Inc. is a non-for profit 501 (3) (c) based on the “Sustainable Urban Village Model: A Biomimic Design,” with a curriculum grounded in systems that reflect the patterns and principals in our local ecology. This approach is the most resilient and stable system known to us. Ecosystems are self-replicating, self-propagating, and self-maintaining. They increase in complexity and resiliency over time, and use resources effectively by cycling them through tens of thousands of interactions. Every organism depends on countless others and in turn, relies upon the whole. Therefore, the goal of mindful education is not the acquisition of knowledge, but the intertwining of it.
We’re a 21st century school aimed to create communities rooted in empathy, compassion, healing, interconnection, altruism, and creative problem-solving. We combine previously disconnected concepts into new circumstances, bringing basic sustainability back into the community, along with caring and courageous kids.
We believe childhood needs to be joyful and wholesome.
We believe in the value of climbing trees, harvesting veggies, catching frogs and making mud pies. We believe that empathy, love, curiosity, and respect are the truest foundation of learning. We believe in diversity, tolerance, and healthy boundaries. We believe in the healing power of the great outdoors.
“Our highest endeavor must be to develop free human beings who are able of themselves to impart purpose and direction to their lives. The need for imagination, a sense of truth, and a feeling of responsibility—these three forces are the very nerve of education.” Rudolf Steiner

Enrichment Ecological- The two-hour weekly meeting is grounding in permaculture, horticulture, herbology, and biodynamic principles. Ecological Education is about growing your own food with an ecological design that works with people, our natural environment, and ecosystems.
If you look around you, listen to the news, surf the internet, or read the newspaper you will learn that there are some serious problems that our world is facing. Our industries have been polluting our air, soil, and water. Our emissions are changing the climate. We are facing droughts, severe weather events like cyclones and floods, food is becoming more expensive. We are running out of oil and energy costs are rising.
Ecological education offers positive solutions to many of these problems. Children will learn to grow your own food, collect rainwater, produce your own energy, design homes that support the environment. Ecological education can help us create happier, healthier, more sustainable communities, and have lots of fun on the way.
Core Academics/Main Lesson- The two-hour weekly meetings are devoted to the main lesson tutoring, which focuses on one topic rather than one subject. Main lessons on the same broader topics are taught for several weeks. This is called a block. Subject areas are combined in the main lesson, and/or may focus on one particular subject area.
The main lesson includes elements that teach to head, heart, and hands. This means there is movement included, as well as academic learning and an artistic element. The core teacher holds space for each child assisting in the evolvement of their learning weekly and meets with each parent monthly. This layer of support allows for a continuum in and outside of the classroom.
Fine Arts-Students will be working with art instructors on their textbooks through illustration, designing, drawing, and painting sets for theater, along with having a 30 min movement exploration; yoga, free movement, and some dance format for plays.
Mixed Media & Theater-The focus is integrating the arts into all aspects of student learning. Our teacher's belief that students are able to make connections between all of the different subjects they study with art as a connector. Students work on projects to explore topics deeply. Their learning combines the core subject areas like math, science, reading, writing, and social studies. When students finish a project, they share their learning with the Mindful Ways community including staff, parents, and community members.
Parent Education-Mandatory bi-weekly online meeting. More information coming soon.
